What is a METCON WOD?

METCON stands for metabolic conditioning which means any form of exercise that increases the efficiency of any of the energy systems, which in turn means to condition your system to get better at recovering and getting rid of byproducts.

For conditioning, you can use HIIT (high-intensity interval training) or any other type of workout that is designed to increase metabolic demand and increase in energy usage.

In CrossFit, typically a METCON WOD is two to three exercises repeated for several rounds. A good example is one of the girls WODs “Cindy”, which is several rounds of 5 pull-ups, 10 pushups, and 15 squats.
